"The Fighter" has been released in U.S. theaters, meaning the general public is learning the story of Irish Micky Ward. The buzzed-about film already has gained Oscar attention as it focuses on the Massachusetts boxer, having been named the "Best Sports Movie of the Decade" by "Sports Illustrated."

The move stars Mark Wahlberg (who plays Ward) and Christian Bale (who plays his drug-addicted half-brother Dicky Eklund), as well as former middleweight (160 pounds) contender, Miguel Espino, who plays the role of rising boxer, Alfonso Sanchez.

Wahlberg and Bale grace the SI cover. Wahlberg has received a Golden Globe Best Actor nomination for his role in the film, and appears shirtless in boxing shorts and gloves on the cover. It marks one of the few times in the magazine's 56-year history that SI has pictured a non-athlete on the cover -- other than in its annual swimsuit issue.

Espino rode a five-year, 11-bout winning streak that had included six knockouts, with four straight stoppages into his December, 2009, HBO televised, Top Rank Promotions fifth-round knockout loss to then-WBO and WBC middleweight king Kelly Pavlik,

In this FanHouse video, long time trainer Macka Foley shared his thoughts on what he feels are the best and worst boxing films.
