Robert Guerrero on Vicente Escobedo, Juan Manuel Marquez, Michael Katsidis

Southpaw former two-time IBF featherweight (126 pounds) and one-time IBF super featherweight (130 pounds) titlist, Robert Guerrero, of Gilroy, Calif., spoke to FanHouse recently about Saturday night's HBO televised lightweight (135 pounds) clash with 2004 Olympian Vicente Escobedo of Woodland, Calif., at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.,

Guerrero-Hernandez, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events, will take place on the under card of a junior welterweight (140 pounds) bout featuring 32-year-old former world titlist Zab Judah (38-6, 26 KOs) of Brooklyn, and, 27-year-old Lucas Matthysse (27-0, 25 KOs) of Argentina.

The 27-year-old Guerrero (27-1-1, 18 KOs) is after his 12th straight victory and his 10th knock out during that run, having last lost by split-decision to Gamaliel Diaz in December 2005. Nicknamed "The Ghost," Guerrero is coming off of July's 10-round, unanimous decision over former four-time world champion and Cuban Olympic gold medalist Joel Casamayor (37-5-1, 22 KOs) -- this with his wife, Casey Guerrero, at ringside, having recently recovered from a life-threatening battle with leukemia.

The 28-year-old Escobedo (22-2, 14 KOs) is coming off of a March, third-round knockout of Carlos Urias to rebound from September's split-decision loss to Australia's Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KOs) in a failed bid to earn the WBO's interim lightweight title.
.
Guerrero hopes to face the winner between Katsidis and his Nov. 27 rival, WBA and WBO lightweight (135 pounds) king Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KOs), or possibly make a move into the talent-rich 140-pound division. Earlier this year, Robert chose to pull out of a scheduled March 27 fight with Katsidis in order to be with Casey during her recovery from a bone marrow transplant.
