Detroit, Las Vegas Considered for Amir Khan-Marcos Rene Maidana

Filed under: WBA, Golden Boy Promotions, Boxing Rumors, HBO

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed that Detroit and Las Vegas are among the site considerations for an HBO-televised, Dec. 11 bout between WBA junior welterweight (140 pounds) champion Amir Khan of England and WBA interim titlist Marcos Rene Maidana of Argentina.

Detroit, said Schaefer, is a player due to the fact that the city boasts a large Muslim population, and the 23-year-old Khan (23-1, 17 knockouts), of Pakistan decent, is a practicing Muslim.

BoxingScene.com's Robert Morales first reported the story. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
