Amir Khan on course after illness to fight before the end of the year

? Aims to fight winner of Juan Manuel Mrquez v Juan Daz? Khan aims to hold fight at O2 or MEN ArenaAmir Khan's illness will not prevent him from fighting again in late November or early December as planned, according to his father, Shah. He hopes to take on the winner of this month's WBA lightweight title fight between Juan Manuel Mrquez and Juan Daz at the end of the year and his "dream" is for it to be staged in England, either at London's O2 or the MEN Arena in Manchester.Khan was released on Sunday from a Bolton hospital after feeling unwell following a trip to South Africa to watch England play Germany in the World Cup. Initial fears that he may be suffering from malaria proved unfounded, and his father told the Guardian today that Khan will be able to resume training following Ramadan."Ramadan starts on 11 August so by mid September Amir will be back in training for six to 10 weeks which will take us up to the end of November, early December. He is going to Las Vegas to watch the Daz-Mrquez fight. The winner of this should be Amir's next fight."Who would be Khan's preference? "To be honest he'd like Mrquez as he's the big name, the world champion [he also holds the WBO lightweight belt]. He's been in with the best, losing against Floyd Mayweather [Jr, last September] is no disgrace as he was the pound-for-pound man. Mrquez's people rejected [a fight against Khan] previously but that was just after losing to Mayweather."Whoever he fights next Khan Sr stated that his son would prefer a home bout. "That's what we're working towards at the moment, here in the UK. Amir would love to have it at the Bolton Wanderers stadium in the open air, the atmosphere would be electric. But obviously the weather's an issue, it's a bit of a risk. So somewhere like the O2 or the MEN. But if not here then Madison Square Garden or Las Vegas. Vegas is another dream of his."Khan's last contest was a second defence of his WBA light-welterweight belt, which ended in an 11th round stoppage of Paulie Malignaggi in the theatre at the Garden. It was Khan's first fight in America.Amir KhanBoxingJamie Jacksonguardian.co.uk © Guardian News & Media Limited 2010 | Use of this content is subject to our Terms & Conditions | More Feeds
